Engagement Pics!!! Here are my favorites....mostly pics that didn't showcase my tummy!
Pictures by Kristin Spencer Photography. She and her husband, Jared, are amazing. LOOOOOOVE them and their pics! There's a reason why she's RI's best!

My band:
My wedding band, made my MRT Jewelers in East Providence, RI. They did a
complete custom job on my ring. We didn't want to go with the same maker of
my e-ring for the band because of various reasons, so we started from scratch
with MRT. They did a great job and gave us a great price!

Table linens will be chocolate brown bengaline satin w/ green satin accents (Sweetheart table with green statin draped, etc).

Lounge Area (By Kelli & her team at Exquisite Events)
(2 white couches w/ lime & brown pillows and cube drink tables & Photobooth from www.riphotobooths.com)

Flower Inspiration:
(Thanks to Knottie KathMarried for her AWESOME color scheme...)

 Other Decor ideas:

I definitely love the idea of decorating the ceiling of the tent! Lantenrs, lights, drapings...

I like the idea of this for our cocktail table centerpices, so I made some of my own and will definitely add coffee beans w/ a votive. My prototypes are below. I bought cheap vases from Michael's for $1.00 and cheap ribbon there as well. So, all in all, making my cocktail centerpieces will be about $25.

Veil Inspiration from some married Knotties that I *love*!!!!
I ordered a 110 inch "Audrey Hepburn" veil from my bridal shop in white w/ a small pencil edge. The veil designer is Jennifer Leigh. I am still planning on buying a fingertip veil for the reception.

My "Something Blue"!!!!!!!!!!
$57 from QVC! Platinum plated, simulated quartz. Nothing too fancy, but does the job!
I'm very excited because I have really wanted a ring for my Something Blue.

Here I am modeling the ring & my fingertip veil: (My veil is from www.occanseydesigns.com. It was about $40 w/ shipping)

Hair Inspiration & Flower Pins:
My inspiration is my FAB florist, Semia George, at her wedding:

Here is what I purchased from www.HairComesTheBride.com:

Other Accessories (Shoes, mainly!!)
I LOVE LOVE LOVE what Knottie ilovemycoastie did for her shoes. However, I cannot find the Nine West heels she did. So, I think I will end up getting a pair dyed green for the reception!

Inspiration: ilovemycoastie's shoes
I took the plunge and bought "Marissas" from David's Bridal. I may end up dying them green to match the inspiration above or just keep these as my white ceremony shoes. They were only $58 and very comfy! The sales staff at David's in North Attleboro, MA was very helpful.

GREEN SHOES!!! Look what I found at DSW for $39!!! YAHOO!

BM Gifts:
I had to remove this...I have too many BMs on the Knot now!!! lol

My sister's dress:

The girls are picking any dress they want in a knee length, spring-green dress. My BM Jenna modeled the styles!!!
(Left: Avery/ Right: Erika)
PS, I'm wearing this exact dress, Avery,
style and color, in my sister's wedding in Aprl)
Left: Ashley w/ Sash / Right: Ashley with cuff

Here is what they chose:
Lauren (MOH): Erika w/ Lime Sash
Bridget: Halter Maternity Ashley w/ Lime Sash
Katherine: Ashley with Ivory Sash
Paula: Avery with Ivory Sash
Kate: Ashley with Ivory cuff
Janelle: Julie with Ivory Sash
Jenna: Posey with Ivory top, lime sash, and spring green bottom

Bridesmaid's Jewlery:
Each girl chose their own dress & is so different, plus I want them to have a nice set of jewels to wear beyond the wedding that is one of a kind. So, I have made pieces for 3 out of the 7 girls so far. Lots of work left to do!

The Little Stars: Flowergirl & RIngbearer
(they were both born last November and will be almost 19 months old for the wedding.)

My Flowergirl is my best friend's daughter, Gracyn. (Knottie/Nestie Macey)

Ringbearer is my childhood best friend's son, Tommy

Flower Girl Ideas:

This is our FG dress by Jordan fashion's Sweet Beginnings line. I got a price almost 1/2 off the designer's price at a local bridal shop, but I ordered late and had to pay a rush cut fee. Oh well! Still cheaper. Can't wait to get it!

Here is Gracyn in the dress, she is so much cuter than the model!

With her mom, my BM Bridget, (Bridget is almost 29 weeks preg & is growing
rapidly! The seamstress is added fabric to her dress....as you can see that
baby needs a bit more room in there!

Ringbear: Seersucker Suit
(Purchased at Macy's by Nautica.)

Flower Girl Basket & Ring Bearer Pillow:
These are awesome! I had them custom made by eBay seller SuzeKate. She has a lot of premade styles listed in her inventory on eBay, but she'll make you anything your heart desires! She even made mine a little smaller since my little ones will only be 18 months old. She is very responsive on email and gave me a great deal for the pair! I HIGHLY recommend her!

From Knottie JSue: Her wedding was breathtaking! And, I loved her H's tan suit!

These are the suits in real life from Knottie  M&B...8.25.07 (She had a GOREGOUS pink wedding BTW)

We ordered the Jim's Formal Wear Destination Collection tan suit from Waldorf Tux in Rhode Island.

Ties for the Men:

Groom's Tie!!!
I searched HIGH & LOW for a tie that would be colorful and something Michael would love. (He loves bright ties!) I almost gave up! I went to my Knotties for help and our very own RI Knottie, and Chatty Bride, KUPISTAR, found the IDEAL tie!!!! Yahoo!
It was $65 from http://www.forzieri.com/

This is the tie for the dads (I could only get 2...boo)
Ebay Seller Tie-JCMould
Another Tie Seller I recommend: Ebay seller Landisun

This is the tie for the Groomsmen: (Ebay seller Modern China)

I love these swirls (Picture: Kristin Spencer photography)

Save the Dates:
We set up my camera using the timer and sat in front of a closed curtain to achieve the Photobooth look. It took a few tries, but we ended up with 4 shots that we, ahem, I, liked...
1. White card stock to print the backings (2 per page)
2. Magnetic Photo Ink-Jet paper from Office Depot. ($15.99 for 5 sheets.) I printed 5 STD's per sheet.
3. I bought business-sized envelopes from Staples in a nice, heavyweight white paper (from their line of resume quality papers)

To make the STD's, I used the Apple Program "Pages." I made a black rectangle and then cut & pasted the pics over the top. Then, I did a textbox w/ our webpage and turned it on it

Reserved Seating Signs:
I saw a few other bios with Knotties who made chair labels for their ceremony for family members, etc. Directions are located in my FAQ below.

Flip Flop basket (for dancefloor) /Table Numbers/Menu:
I didn't really want to name the tables anything other than number them. Here's what I've made on the computer so far, I have not printed them out yet. I'm going to mount them on brown cardstock. Also, I ordered 30 pairs of brown and green flip flops from Oldnavy.com for $.99 each!!! Talk about a bargain! I'm going to put them into a basket or galvanized tin tub and label it with the "dancing shoes" sign!

Here is what I produced...

How I did it:
The Sign: I used Word to make the sign. I used a combo of different width lines in our colors, then text boxes w/ no fill or line color to overlap the two color words "dancing shoes." I printed it onto white linen cardstock and mounted onto brown linen cardstock.

The tub: I wrapped the wooden stake with wide satin double-faced ribbon. Then used heavy duty clear packing tape to fasten the sign to the stake & the bucket. That's it! PS, the tub was 40% at Michael's after Christmas and was only $8.99! I got two of them as one won't fit all 30 pairs of flip flops.

Paper items shown with a swatch of my bridesmaid's dresses in "Spring Green" by Coren Moore.

Close-Up: Table numbers w/ white linen cardstock mounted on 5x5 folded cards from Paper-Source in chocolate.

Electronic Copy:
I made this in Word. I used lines of varying sizes for the stripe, then textboxes with no fill color or line color. To do the number w/ the shadow color, I overlapped two textboxes and upped the size of the green #1 by 3 pts on the font.

Menu:
I have made 2 mockups of the menu. After making the table numbers, I wanted to tie in the design into the menu, so here is my newest design:

My other menu design is below. These are the dishes we *think* we like, but have yet to taste! Anyway, were having a raw bar and 5 passed hor d'oeuvres.
We are also going to have two passed signature cocktails to match our colors: Apple Martinis & Chocolate Martinis & would like to have these two siganture drinks served on an ice luge as well!!!

Cocktail Napkins from www.foryourparty.com (they were reasonably priced, fast shipping, and great quality!) We ordered 150.

Old Menu design & Favor  Envelope:

In the envelopes, the guests will take home their
4x6 photobooth printouts:
(This pic is from www.kristinspencer.com)

Here is what I deigned for our photobooth strip's middle portion:

Out of Towner Bags:
I plan to add: water, Chaser hangover pills, Chex Mix, mints, listerine strips, welcome letter and stuff to do guide, etc. Bags are from www.nashvillewraps.com

Labels/Stickers:
Made them myself using my printer & the blessed Xyron machine from Michael's. Lots of Knotties have asked me what the Xyron machine is and how it works, so I made the cheesiest little video and you can click below to see. If you are interested in label help, stickers, let me know! I'd be happy to help!  I DO NOT recommend the magnet Xyron roll. I didn't like the glossy laminate it put over the top of our STD's, it looked cheap and messy. I rec. magnetic photo paper for your DIY magnets.

Xyron machine (model 510)
$39 at Michael's Crafts Stores. Grab your weekend circular and get a 40% off one item and get this for almost half price!!! Cartridges are $19-$39 depending on what you want to make.

 Invites:
I originally was thinking completely DIY, but I don't want to print my invites myself. I'm just not satisfied with Ink Jet for the printing quality.....SO, I found this GREAT site through another knottie. I am going to order about 85-90 invites in this style below (but in lime green and bronze and white linen cardstock colors).
www.custom-programs.com

Here are our proofs for the inside and RSVP insert:

We kept these pretty much the same, except we deleted the "# of seats" line to avoid any possible confusion with children....but I will write the names of the invites on the lines before sending.

Our Finished Product:

Wedding Weekend Timeline
This is just a prototype, but pretty much howI think the weekend will progess.
I made the itinerary on my Mac program Pages. I used a ready-made template, and tweaked the body of the page.
A lot of Knotties have asked for copies of these, but unfortunately, the docs are too large to send over my email--over 10 MB.

If you have Apple Pages, just use one of their templates--that's what I did, pretty simple.

Like how I have the Groom "arriving" 15 minutes earlier on
the men's timeline....shhhhhhhhh!!!!

Also, we had to bump the ceremony up to 5 pm.

In memory of our deceased grandparents:
We're going to put a candle to honor each grandparent on a cocktail height table at the reception. Here is one of the 5 candles....I have 4 more to make!
If you would like directions on how to make these, please check out my step-by-step instructions here at the my wedding blog on www.chattybrides.com

This is the finished look, these are candles I made for a good friend's wedding.

Guestbook:
Signature Frame from Michael's. It was 50% off of $32! Not bad for an 8x10! I put my favorite engagement picture from our session with Fab photog Kristin Spencer. I cannot wait to see our wedding pics! I'll probably replace the pic with a wedding photo, but I didn't want it to be empty at the wedding.

I made a small 3x5 "directions" piece and framed it as well. This frame was also 50% at Michael's! I love their deals!

Program Basket:
Basket is from Home Goods for $9.99! I used ribbon, hot glue, and the sign I made in Word mounted on brown cardstock.

Programs!!!
My programs have been a LABOR of love. Very fun to see them come together, but a tedious task that required a lot of precision.  I have step-by-step instructions on my blog in case you have questions, but here is the finished product and shots of the inside pages.

Final Look:
Inside:
(we did ONE page, photocopied front & back;
No order of ceremony)

Photo Sharing!
RAVE: www.moo.com!
I found this site from another Knottie's post. Instead of disposable table cameras, we'd love our guests to upload their pics to an electronic album on the web. I had 100 of these cards made at moo.com and will place them in a few locations around the reception (bars, guestbook table, a few on tables, and near place cards)

Cardbox:
I used a cardboard hat box from Michael's and decorated it w/ ribbon and pictures. I put pics of us through our 4 years on the sides and our e-pics on the top. For step by step instructions and pics, click here and visit my Chatty Brides Blog directions.

Candy Buffet/Bar Decor:
We're doing a smallish candy buffet--just something to add some interest to the lounge area. Our photosbooth photos are our primary favor, this is an extra.

Here are the paper goods I made for this area & I included step-by-step instructions on my Chatty Brides Blog.

Here are some of th jars. I borrowed them from another RI Knottie. Thanks, Kupistar!!!

My Candy Bag Labels/Stickers:
These were pretty easy to make. The designing was the hard & time consuming aspect. Punching out the circles was tedious....all 150 of them!
(Directions on how I made these: Click here for my blog!)

I ordered 2lb bags in chocolate brown from www.NashvilleWraps.com for about $32. (250 count)

Escort Cards:
Our cards will be hung on two lines of dark brown velvet ribbon between two
trees adjacent to the cocktail area. I spraypainted clothes pins brown and made
these little guys to show guests where they are seated! Love it!!!
(For detailed directions on how I made this, visit my Chatty Brides blog!)

Now all I need is for my hair to GROW, GROW, GROW!!!!
I used to have kinda long hair, but last January, I cut 6 inches off and I felt like it was ample time to let it grow out for the wedding. Unfortunately, I loved the shorter cut and maintained it for awhile with trims. Now, it's January, 6 months out and I need more hair for these dos!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GROW!!! I bought hair growth vitamins, we'll see how they go!

Seating Plans: I have been using a posterboard separated into sections to
map out a seating plan w/ Post-It flags with each couple's name on it.
The Post-Its make it easy because you can move people around easily.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: Can I have the template for your DIY stuff?
A. Easy question, tough answer....I didn't really use templates per se, and if I email you the documents, you may not be able to use them because of certain fonts I have in my computer & you lack, etc. Most of my stuff was made on MSWord for my Mac. I used a combo of textboxes with no line color or fill color (that way, things can overlap).

Q: How did you make your unity candle?

A: Printed our monogram onto vellum (for inkjet printers), then use roll on ahesive and pulled it tight around the candle, then glued it to itself (not much sticks to wax candles!) Then, I used the roll on ahesive and glued my green & brown ribbon together, then to the vellum (again, nothing sticks real well to the candle).

Q: How did you make your reserved seating signs?

A: I had some 5x7 enclosure cards from Paper Source in ivory. I used brown cardstock from Michael's and cut those in half first. Then, printed the signs onto my 5x7 cards. Next, I used spray ahesive to mount the card to the brown cardstock. Then, I used an exacto knife and cut slits in the top and bottom of the seam where the card met the cardstock, then wove ribbon through the slits.

Q: What fonts do I see on your DIY work?

A: Bickley Script & Baskerville Old Face for block. We're also using some Copperplate Light in the invites.

Q: How do you make your bio look the way it does?

A: I use a page program called Pages by Mac. Then I do screen captures of what I've made to covert them to JPEGs nd then just insert!

Q: How did you get those cool motifs on your menu?

A: They are from the Dingbat font called "Design Motif

Things I've learned about wedding planning from The Knot message boards:

-1. Local Boards are your friends. National Boards can be tough sometimes, but just be careful about what you post.

  • I love all of the boards on the Knot. I lurk and post throughout all of them, but I LOOOVE my RI and Boston girls! Your local board is the best place to go for vendor ideas, reviews, and pics of their work. Also, your local girls will usually know you better and know your wedding (they've check out your bio a lot).
  • I love GBCK's PSA bio on Knotting. It is worth a read. Check it out!
  • Never delete a post (unless you accidentally posted something personal, etc) Lurk on the boards for a while and you'll see why I say this...

1.
Many people think all BM's should do is buy the dress & show up a few hours before the couple says 'I do!'

  • This, I don't get...Of course, the brides that demand their BMs do certain "chores" is silly and immature; however, it is sure upsetting when some girls say that no one HAS to throw a shower or a b-party or even act like they care their good friend is getting married. You asked your BEST friends to be in your wedding and you're bridezilla and self-centered if you want them to be excited for you? The truth is it is pretty lousy if BMs don't throw (or help organize) some sort of bridal shower. It doesn't have to be fancy or over the top, just a gathering. If all BM's had to do is show up, then why ask them to be BM's, just invite them as guests!

2. People judge their friends' relationship status and/or who she/he brings to their wedding.

  • Again, this comes down to friendship. Why does one care who her friend brings to her wedding? I am shocked when people actually care that someone wants to bring a friend, not a S/O. We must remember we have not always been part of a couple. There was a time when some of us (and if this doesn't apply to you, then kudos to you! Someone was smiling down on you!) received an invite to a wedding, or an invitation to be in a BP, when we were completely, utterly SINGLE. Why should we treat single friends like second class invites? Um....she/he is still your friend. Sometimes it's awkward/humiliating enough being completely single and going to a wedding Again, my feeling is--if these people are good enough friends of yours to invite them to your smallish, intimate, close-friends only wedding, then let them have dates. Don't we owe that to our good friends?? Also, some people on the knot will say things like "I cannot stand my BFF's boyfriend. I DO NOT want him at the wedding." Well, she's your friend, she's a big girl, she can date who she wants, he's coming to the wedding and he's NOT GOING TO RUIN it!

3. Some people FREAK out when they didn't get a gift.

  •  Yes, its pretty lousy someone came to the wedding and didn't bring a gift, but weddings aren't for gifts. Also, give the guests time to give you their gifts. They may be waiting until you're home from the honeymoon and they can give the gift in person, etc.

4. Bridesmaid Gifts:

  • They're your best friends. Yes, you should give them a gift. Get them something meaningful and personal and  help them with the exorbitant costs of the wedding. Paying for your bridesmaid's hair and/or other beauty services is much more helpful to them than giving them $100 worth of personalized goods. In terms of personalized gifts, I did the big LL Bean Totes because I personally have always wanted one and never have bought one for myself, so I figured these would be gifts they would use for along time. The LL Bean totes were actually bigger and cheaper than I had budgeted for. many other wedding accessory sites have personalized totes that are smaller, less quality, and not as large. Go LL Bean, Knotties!

5. Signature Knottie Touches

  • Knotties, because of our bond and presence on the boards, have certain signature touches. Some of these things feel overdone/too trnedy. Sometimes I cringe when I see them in bio after bio, but then I remember that I have a distorted perception because I live on the Knot. Overdone Knottie Touches:
    • "I Do" cake letters
    • Tears of Joy packets
    • Fan programs
    • Rhinestone monogram cake toppers
    • Bathroom baskets
    • Poems on everything!!!

 6. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE looking at Wedding Photographer's blogs...here are some of my favorite haunts:

  • Kristin Spencer [ My photog (I'm partial!) ]
  • Angelica Glass
  • Kelly Moore Photography

Bridal Party FAQ:

1. Other Bridesmaid Stuff: This is really just a FAQ about BM's here.

  • Q: Do I have to have a BP?
  • A: No.

  • Q: Can I have a big bridal party?
  • A: YES! Check out these:

  • Q: Can I have uneven sides?
  • A: Yes, not a big deal.

  • Q: What do bridal parties with girls wearing difference dresses look like?
  • A: Here are some examples!

  • Q: When should I ask my BP?
  • A: About 1 year-10 months before the wedding. Although this was very tough to do, I was glad I did this (for the most part). There were two girls that I consider my BEST friends and automatically, they were "in" the BP.  There were some others I really wanted to ask, but I held off until the 10 month mark or so and I was glad I did, I still wanted to ask them.

  • Q: What is a unique way to ask my BM's? How did you ask your BMs?
  • A: I asked my sister to be my MOH the night I got engaged. She's my one and only sister and the only choice for MOH. Otherwise, I wouldn't rec doing it that early on (19 months out!). I just asked one BM when she was here for our 5 year college reunion (she lives in FL and our reunion was here in Providence). I wanted to ask her in person, so at ne of the events, when it was just us, I asked her. She was so excited. One I justed asked at her apartment one night. Then, I took two of my friends out to lunch and asked them with little cards and watched them open them up at the same time. The point is....just ASK them. Don't worry about creative ways or asking each girl the same way. I was touched at how excited my girlfriends were to be asked. It was very flattering and sweet.

  • Q: I have BMs that don't feel like going dress shopping or are being difficult about the dress choice, what do I do?
  • A: Tough one....ugh. If you want all of the girls in the same dress and the majority of the team chose a dress and said BM is giving you a hard time and she wasn't there, then...oh well! Or, if she is giving you a hard time and really wants to dig her heels in, have her choose a different dress in the same line, color, etc w/ a different cut. Or, ff you want them all the same and do not want to offer a choice, then you have to get a skin and say "I'm sorry you feel this way, but this is the dress. If you don't like it, then you don't have to be a BM." Ouch, painful, but this will have to be this way, right?

  • Q: Have any of your used Netbride.com or Pearlsplace.com??
  • A: I have NEVER EVER heard or seen a rant about either of these two venues since 12/06 when I started on The Knot. Girls say thee prices ROCK and the dresses come in earlier than expected. Many get quotes 30-50% off of Bridal Shop prices. For example, I was quoted $75 for a FG dress that was $134 at the shop where I bought my gown.

  • Other things that come from MY experience as a bridesmaid:
    • Let them wear their own shoes. I hated shelling out another $75 for shoes that sucked and I took off and exchanged for flip flops anyway (esp when I wore floor length gowns)
    • Let them sit with their dates. Head tables without dates suck for your BMs, GMs, and their dates. Believe me.
    • Don't force a BP dance. I hated dancing w/ dudes I met that morning for a circle on the dancefloor. Talk about feeling like a tool.
    • Don't let them dominate your choice of dress color. Period. It's your wedding.
