Vincent and I at the beach for my birthday in summer of 2005.

We met at one of Vincent's gallery openings in March of 2005.
Aside from running an art gallery, Vincent also does amazing graphic and web design.
I have gone to school for literature and apparel design and currently make custom clothing for a living.
(This is my first try at web design)

 

We got engaged December 28, 2005.
We were out of town for our friends' wedding and the proposal totally caught me off guard!
He had been really flustered all day and had even forgotten to pack his camera.
He took this photo himself with a crappy disposable that we got at Target on our way out of town.

After being engaged for about five months we decided to get down to the business of planning the wedding.

If I want our wedding to have any sort of theme it is just that I want it to be fun, modern and reflect us.
I keep thinking about those old ads for the Clinique perfume Happy. That's the mood I want for our wedding.
I have searched the web high and low for a photo from that ad campaign. It featured Karen Elson with short hair
and even shorter bangs. She was jumping in the air with a giant smile on her face.

 

Our colors are aqua and red. I was inspired by the summer 2006 Martha Stewart Weddings
featured color palette.

The Save the Date design was a collaboration of Vincent and I, which means he would do a mock up
and I would suggest changes. He is a graphic designer, afterall...

We had a stamp made of the birds and then used block print ink to stamp the cover sheet with.

Here they all are drying in the kitchen.

Here is the inside. It's not really that yellow. It's more of an eggshell.
We bought pre-cut stock and printed these out on our printer.
Actually, Vincent did this part. He did the stamping too!
Then I took both pages and sewed them together along the top.

Our reception is at Jimmy Mak's, a jazz club a few blocks away. They are providing the catering.
We're going to have a greek hors d'oeuvres buffet.

We are getting married on a sunday afternoon. After the ceremony we will have some photos taken
in the park blocks which are just two blocks away. Then we will walk through town to our reception!
When I was young I saw a wedding party walking through downtown and thought that it was
so great. I'm really excited to be able to have it in my wedding! We are urban people, so it only makes sense
that all of the aspects of our wedding take place downtown.

Rebecca's June 2006 is one of the Real Weddings featured in the magazine. It was a beautiful, inspiring wedding.

It was a tea party, because I LOVE tea, and each guest got a teacup with a plant in it as a favor.
So cute and wonderful!

I want to have a white bouquet of peonies, ranunculus, and poppies with black centers.
I want the handle of it to be wrapped with aqua satin ribbon and pinned with red pearl head pins in a row.
I think I want the MOH bouquet to be the same flowers, minus the poppies, in red. There aren't really
any aqua flowers. I want to use some vintage satin leaves as accent pieces.

I think a couple of these leaves would be pretty with a red ranunculus for a boutonier or corsage.
I purchased them off of ebay. They have tons of vintage hat flowers and leaves. So great!

Centerpiece vessels:

This is a trial run we did at home.
For the big day we're going to use red and white ranunculus and tie an aqua ribbon around the skinny vase.

Vincent found these at IKEA. I think we'll use them as ceremony decorations. We only have 12.
I think they'll work fine with our other votives and tealights.

 

 

We are having cupcakes for our wedding cake. We're even getting a small 6" round cake
for the top tier of the cake stand so we have something to cut!

This is a sample of the magic they do at Bakery Bar. Ours will be similar to this!
We have chosen vanilla, chocolate, and carrot cake for the cupcakes flavors, all topped with french buttercreme.
Our little cake will be vanilla with french buttercreme.

 

Another artist friend of ours, Meredith Dittmar, is going to make our cake topper.
She makes little 'guys' out of sculpy clay. She had a show at Genuine Imitation last year.

Yay! I have finally finished the favors!

I bought boxes of green tea at Trader Joe's. Then I watched a few movies while removing
the tag and paper envelope they came in.
We printed the 'thank you' card and the little tags. They have our monogram on one side and the cat on the other.
Then I watched some more movies while gluing and stapling the new tags on,
wrapping the tag around the bag, and stuffing it and the card into the cellophane bags.
It was time intensive, but hardly cost any money.

As you can see, I took an old Christmas box, cut a slit in the top and decoupaged wrapping paper onto it.
After the wedding I'll use it as a pretty box to store wedding mementos in.

Here is our guestbook, with a silly photo of me. We'll stick in a photo of us later, duh!

We're doing a polaroid guestbook. There is that great photo of me again...
I watched more movies while I stuck in all of the photo corners.
I used that photo as a template to make sure that all of the corners will actually fit a polaroid photo.
We have silvers pens for guests to write with. I think it will turn out well.
We also have people assigned to run the camera during the reception, otherwise I know people would run off with it.

Here is one of the cocktail napkins that I stamped.
There are 120 of them. I watched more movies while I did this too.
I think we're going to use them with the cupcakes.

Since our wedding is going to be in the afternoon and downtown,
I knew that a traditional wedding gown wasn't the type of dress for me.
I randomly found this dress at BCBG February of 2006 and it is perfect!!!

Also, even though it's slightly blurry, my engagement ring is in this photo as well.
It is a white gold solitaire with pave on the front of the band.

I'm really happy with these earrings. I found them at Twist, a local shop featuring unique jewelers.

 

The shoes I picked: 'Myrna' by BCBG in 'wheat kid'

After choosing the dress and shoes I decided it was time to figure out what veil I wanted.
I'm pretty handy with a sewing machine, so I decided to make my own.
I wasn't sure whether I wanted a longer traditional veil or a short, more retro veil.
In the end I decided to make one of each.

Here's a funny picture of me, taken by me, in the long veil. Doesn't it look great with my t-shirt?
It is two layers of tulle and comes down to the middle of my back. I can wear it either at the front of my head,
like this, or further back, where it could be fastened to the top of a french twist or something like that.

Here is the short veil option. This photo is not as good of me, sadly...
I really love this veil. I think I might shorten it so it barely covers one eye instead of half of my face.
This is made out of fishnet that I gathered and stitched down.
Both veils have a small section of trim with loops on it on the part where it needs to attach to the comb.
I will take better photos of this detail soon.

So many people spend large amounts of money on veils, when really they are very easy to make.
I spent $17 on the supplies for both of these veils, including the rhinestone hair comb.
I'm hoping to post instructions so maybe some other people can see how easy it really is!

I know that I need to try on both veils with my dress to see which one works the best, but
as of right now I'm thinking about using both. Since we're getting married in an art gallery,
which isn't a normal wedding place, I think I'll wear the long veil for the ceremony. I
think it will make me just that much more 'bridal.' After the ceremony I can switch into the
shorter veil for the reception. More and more brides now are switching dresses after the ceremony,
so I figure a veil switch isn't too crazy...

I'm trying to not to get too feather crazy, since they're all along the bottom of my dress, but I just love
them so much! I want to make a little feather hair accessory. I'll have to see what I make and how it looks
and how it works with the veils.

Initially I was thinking of having white feathers in my hair, but now I'm thinking that the guinea feathers (right)
would look really good with the black centered poppies in my bouquet...
