Vendor Reviews

Here's my vendor reviews! I want to preface this with the fact that I don't believe in pluses or minuses so A is as high as it goes.

Ceremony/Reception Location and Catering - Isleworth Country Club - A

I can't say enough good things about my venue. It's beautiful. They treat you like royalty. The food is to die for (hello, they have a Certified Master Chef as their executive chef and there are only 60 of those in the country total). I just love love love my venue.

Photographer - Mike Briggs - A

I think the photos speak for themselves: http://tinyurl.com/4uyb2k I might be biased, but I love my wedding photos. And that's only a small sampling of the 1607 photos he took. Once I get my DVD I'll make a married bio to show off some more of his work. I couldn't possibly be more happy with my pictures, they will be something I will treasure for years and they capture the true feeling and emotions of my wedding day, which is not something every photographer can do. So if you truly feel photography is as important as I do - the flowers are going to die, your dress is probably going to go out of style, the rentals have to go back, and the day is going to eventually end and all that you will truly have left once memories start to fade are your pictures preserving this special moment in time when you were at your happiest and most beautiful - then give Mike a call or an email. He is just so nice and truly makes it easy to be in front of the camera (just ask my camera shy husband!). Pictures were my number one priority and Mike blew my expectations away! Let him blow you away too - contact him!

Videographer/Lighting - Bryan Taylor - TBD/A

I haven't gotten my video back yet so that grade will be TBD. However I must say that I just loved the lighting he did for the reception. The gobo was perfect and the red up lighting really made the whole room pop. He was by far the most inexpensive lighting vendor in the Orlando area for LED lighting and it was money well spent. It really made everyone go "wow!" when they stepped into the room.

Florist - DSR Designs - A

I'll be honest, I was a major pain in the a when it came to the flowers. I just had the hardest time figuring out what I wanted my centerpieces to look like. Before I even met with a florist I poured through books and bought (and returned) various vases. When I met with Debra she completely got my vision for the centerpieces and when I saw my reception room for the first time I couldn't help but giggle like a ridiculous school girl at my centerpieces glowing on all the tables. The flowers for my canopy, the bouquets, and the placecard table all came out fantastic too! And seriously, you can't find a sweeter or a more inexpensive florist for what you get if you tried. She may be located out in BFE, but let me tell you she is worth the drive and then some! She was over a thousand dollars less than the next cheapest quote, I kid you not. Oh and if you liked my canopy or my vases you can rent them from her for your wedding, just an fyi.

DJ - MJ from Junction 88 - A

MJ did a fabulous job! We had about a 50/50 mix of older guests to younger guests and MJ managed to keep everyone on the dance floor! He did a great job announcing, keeping Scott and I on track with when to do the bouquet/garter toss/cake cutting/father mother dances etc. He didn't play anything we didnt want him to, played everything we asked him to, and kept the party going! I honestly could not have asked for a better DJ. My one and only real worry going into the wedding was "what if no one dances and doesnt have a good time and leaves early?". Turns out I had nothing to worry about with MJ as my DJ. Go call him right now if you are still looking for a DJ. He's nice, not cheesy, and I swear the first time we met with him we talked for like two hours. He's that nice.

Violinist - Lisa Ferrigno - A

Lisa did a great job! I met with her a year before my wedding and literally didn't talk to her again - I didn't even get a chance to say hi to her on the wedding day, which I feel kind of bad about. Anyways, she did such a great job! I had an outdoor ceremony and let me tell you her violin was loud and clear and just beautiful to listen to. She also played during the cocktail hour some classical music plus some fun stuff like Disney and Phantom of the Opera type music. She's extremely talented and surprisingly inexpensive. Definitely call her up if you want some live music for your wedding ceremony or cocktail hour!

My dress - Sarasota Brides - B

I have a love/hate relationship with Sarasota Bridal. Love: they had my dream dress, they were not ridiculously expensive, alterations are included free with the purchase of your wedding dress (with the exception of the bustle). Hate: I had three fittings. The first one the seamstress told me she was having her last day at the shop next week so she was only going to hem the front and take in the bust leaving the other seamstress to do the bustle for my second fitting. No big deal. So she pinned me and off I went back to Orlando. I show up for my second fitting and literally nothing had been done to my dress. The pins from my first fitting were still there, it hadn't been touched. The second seamstress told me she didnt feel comfortable altering a wedding dress that she did not personally pin. That's nice and all, but then they should have cancelled my first appointment since it was obviously a waste of my time and gas money and they knew at that point that the first seamstress wasnt going to be there any longer. But I didn't say anything and held my tongue for fear of retribution to my dress. So I came back for my third and final fitting the week before my wedding to the day. I felt a sharp pain when I walked in it - yeah the pins were still in the dress for the crinoline which had never been hemmed. Nice. Then a bustle hook was missing and three bustles had to be moved up so that my dress wouldn't drag. This was a three hour ordeal. I ended up voicing my complaints to the owner and got my bustle alteration bill cut in half which was nice. I still can't recommend the place though.

Wedding Coordinator - Catherine from Orlando Event Fabulous - C
This one is really hard for me to grade because to be honest my personal feelings are getting in the way of me being truly objective. But here's the story. A knottie named "katy&ryan" paged me on the knot when I had earlier posted that I was having trouble finding a decently priced DOC in the Orlando area (I had literally contacted 27 at the time and the cheapest quote I got for DOC was $500 which I was reluctant to pay to be honest). So I contacted the DOC "katy" recommended me to and she was only $375. I met with the coordinator - Catherine Leach, and I thought she was really nice, seemed like she was organized, and hired her on the spot since I knew for a fact she was the cheapest one out there and seemed to have her stuff together. I was planning this wedding, I just needed someone to do all the little stuff on the day of which I honestly feel almost anyone who has been to a lot of weddings can do, so she fit the bill for what I was looking for - inexpensive, and knew what she was doing well enough.

So eventually there was a contest from WESH called the "A-list" where you can nominate your wedding vendors to be on the list and vote for them. It's basically a popularity contest and I was more than happy to nominate all of my wedding vendors to be on the list to help get their names out there because they all seemed to be such great vendors. Well, Catherine got on the list and soon she had tons of positive comments much to my delight from loads of previous brides. However it struck me that some of the comments were not for "Catherine" but for "Katy", as in "Katy&Ryan". Doing a quick look at katy&ryan's bio in comparison to Catherine's wedding page on the knot revealed the same husbands names and the same wedding date and the same wedding location - New Orleans. Too much to be a coincidence. I had been had. I was pissed!!!!

At this time though I was in no mood to have to find a new wedding coordinator, lose my deposit, and have to pay more money for a replacement. So I just bit my tongue, didn't confront her, and just hoped for the best on my wedding day.

So now for a review of her actual services: She did a pretty good job. Decor-wise everything was exactly as I had discussed with her from two weeks before the wedding. She also kept Scott and I from seeing each other before the ceremony, which was not an easy thing to do since Scott had to go run out and retrieve my garter that I had left in my luggage. She did a good job leading my rehearsal and everyone seemed clear on what they had to do for the day of and the ceremony went off flawlessly. When I goofed up the bouquet toss she literally ran down the stairs to retrieve the bouquet for me to re-do the toss, which was nice of her. She brought an assistant with her, and though I didn't really see the assistant do anything myself, I'm sure it was great to have an extra set of hands setting up all the small details and for free for me.

Some negatives: I had to yell for my parents, Scott's parents, and basically everyone who was supposed to be having their picture taken after the ceremony was over. They were all at the cocktail hour and it was very aggrevating. I want to assume that Catherine was somewhere making sure the reception decor was right or something, but I don't know for sure. It would have been nice if she was there to round up the stragglers for the pictures. She also made Scott go out a certain door when the ceremony was about to start so he wouldn't see me, but he didn't know how to get to the ceremony courtyard from the door she made him go out of. Luckily someone else came by and showed him the way around to the courtyard because Catherine never explained to him where to go once he went out the doors and she never came back and he couldnt go back inside for fear of accidently seeing me.

So as you can see, she didn't do that bad of a job. She wasn't super fantastic, but she was no where near horrible either if you look at her actual work itself. But to be honest the complete violation of my good will by lying to me about who she was has left such a bad taste in my mouth that I just cannot get over. It makes me want to leave an F for her. But I am trying to be fair so I am leaving it at a C. For other people who would not have been decieved by her, they would probably give an A or B rating of her just her services. So that's me trying to be fair. But you guys know how much I hate vendors posing as brides on this board!! I did confront her via email about her deception once the wedding was over and she did totally own up to her lie and appologized profusely for it and even said that had I confronted her before the wedding she would have given me back my deposit. I do think she was being sincere. I just hope she has learned her lesson.

BM dress - RK Bridal - A

The Bridesmaid dresses were cheaper than any local store, the dresses shipped directly to the bridesmaids, and they arrived in perfect condition.

Tuxes - MW Tux - B

When the guys picked up their shirts, they were tuxedo shirts instead of the flat front shirt we had ordered so.  We had to have new shirts rushed to us in time for the wedding but when these came in all of them were super long in the arms, but we didn't have time to do anything about it.  Also, we got major attitude from the guy who worked there while trying to get the shirt mishap fixed.

Invitations - Rexcraft - A

Great price, great product.

Save The Date Cards/Magnets/Menu cards - Vista Print - A

Can't beat their pricing and it let us use our own custom designs.

Rentals: Linens - BBJ Linens / Chiavari Chair Rental - Bell Chair Covers Rentals - A

What can I say? It was love at first sight when it came to my linens. I went to BBJ fully expecting to get red linens and came out loving the most gorgeous silver and black damask linens I had ever laid eyes on. I still smile when I see the linens in pictures. The chiavari chairs were the most inexpensive ones I found including delivery and chair pad. I just hated the chairs Isleworth had and in general I do not like chair covers as a personal preference so I sucked it up and rented the chiavari chairs. I'm so glad I did! It really made the whole room look formal I feel and not like a prom.

Favor Boxes - eFavorMart - B

The printing on the boxes weren't perfect on every one and assembling them was a pain in the a**, but you get what you pay for.
